Spring 2010

What's New at The Koetting Associates?

Outdoor Activities: As the long winter finally comes to a close our thoughts turn to outdoor fun and sun. As we do it is important to remember to protect our eyes from harmful UV rays from the sun. More and more studies are telling us there seems to be a correlation between UV sunlight and the development of cataracts and macular degenration to go along with the problems UV may cause to the skin around the eyes. Quality sunglasses can keep harmful rays from penetraiting your eyes as well as protect the skin around your eyes. At The Koetting Associates we are pleased to offer a large selection of high quality sunglasses including Maui Jim, Oakley, Switch and more. Whether or not you require prescription we will be able to provide sunglasses you will love to wear while affording you the peace and mind of protection to your eyes.

Employment Opportunities: As the economy struggles to recover we at  The Koetting Associates are keenly aware that many people remain out of work and many more find themselves unhappy in positions they have been forced to accept. We are always looking for caring, outgoing individuals to join our staff and help us provide quality care for our patients. Benefitsinclude uniforms, health insurance, 401-K retirement plan, flexible spending account (cafeteria plan) and more. If you think you would enjoy working in a busy, patient-focused environment we would like to talk to you. If you have questions you may call our office administrator, Barbara Oellermann, at 314-863-0000.

Charitable Participation: The Koetting Associates has long taken pride in giving back to the St. Louis community in a variety of ways. Dr. Castellano was recently appointed the Sponsorship Chairman of the Ronald McDonald House of St. Louis Golf Tournament. Over the past year we have also helped many other organizations including the United Way, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the American Diabetes Association, the Juvenile Diabetess Association, The Backstoppers, the Adoption Exchange, Therapeutic Horsemanship of St. Louis, Alzeimer's Association, Susan G. Komen Rally for the Cure, Art St. Louis, The Young Catholic Musicians, Foundation Fighting Blindness as well as numerous other local school, parish and community events and causes.

FDA Cllinical Trials: We currently have underway three clinical studies for new contact lens materials, solutions and devices. The Koetting Associates is often asked to participate in these FDA clinical trials or pre-market studies and, as a result, we have access to the latest contact lens and lens care technology. Participants usually receive free contact lenses and/or solutions during the course of the study as well as further benefits in many cases. If you are interested in participating in a future study please ask our staff if we might be recruitng patients for a study in which you may qualify.

Contact Lenses for Astigmatism: There have been some excellent new advancements in contact lenses to correct astigmatism and The Koetting Asociates has had great success with many of these new designs. Some of these lenses may be worn safely overnight for extended wear periods elliminating the need for a daily cleaning regimen. Also, we now have daily dsiposable contact lenses that can correct astigmatism and do away with the need to clean lenses at all. So, if you have astigmatism and have been told in the past you cannot wear contacts, or if you have tried contact lenses previously and failed, you may want to call soon for an appointment. We look forward to hearing from you.
