What’s New at Koetting Eye Center?

Acuvue Oasys with Transitions are here!

How about a contact lens that turns darker outside and lightens again when you’re inside? Well, that’s exactly what the new Acuvue Oasys with Transitions can do. Designed to help people who are bothered by bright light either indoors or outdoors, these revolutionary lenses are now available at Koetting Eye Center. This lens “knows to adapt” in moments when you’re bothered by bright light, like going outdoors from dark interiors, playing sports in changing light conditions, or adjusting to digital screens. And, as an added bonus, these lenses block harmful UVand blue light radiation from reaching the back of the eye. For more information please call us at 314-863-0000 or ask about this exciting new technology next time you visit our office.

If your eyes are dry you’re not alone:

Many people, especially this time of year, suffer from “dry eyes”. There can be many reasons for dry eye, including hormonal changes and aging as well as a number of other causes. By far the number one cause of dry eye is a condition called meibomian gland dysfunction or MGD. In fact approximately 86% of patients with dry eye have MGD. The meibomian glands line the upper and lower eyelids and secrete oils that are important to a healthy tear film. If these glands become deficient, as they often may, the tear evaporates quickly and may cause a dry, scratchy and burning sensation. While MGD is chronic and progressive, if caught early it can be treated by a number of means. One treatment includes a procedure called LipiFlow, a non-invasive procedure which uses the precise application of heat and gentle massage to the inside of the eyelids which can restore secretion of these essential oils and help relieve the symptoms of dry eye. If you have concerns about chronic dry eye please discuss it with one of our doctors next time you’re in our office.

Mergers and Acquisitions: A Tale of Two Practices

Koetting Eye Center is delighted to announce the merger with (and acquisition thereof) The Eye Center of West County in Ellisville.  This merger was final in January of 2016, but most of the changes have taken place behind the scenes in order to achieve a smooth transition and excellent continuity of care for our patients.
The Eye Center of West County is a well-established practice in Ellisville, MO which was started by Gary W. DeLancey, O.D., who continues to see patients at this office part time.  Koetting Eye Center is very pleased to welcome all those patients for whom The Eye Center of West County has provided eyecare in the past and all new patients who are just joining our practice!  We hope that you will find the merger of our practices to be beneficial to you and your families and that you will continue to enjoy the same high level of comprehensive eyecare you have come to expect.  Please feel free to drop by any time to see some of the exciting new changes to the office and to meet two of the Optometrists from our Brentwood office who are now seeing patients at this location; Dr. Joe Castellano and Dr. Nick Castellano.
This merger was an obvious decision for Dr. Carmen Castellano and Dr. Gary DeLancey, who have been friends and colleagues for many years and felt that the philosophy of the two practices and the quality of care provided made this a perfect match.  For those patients at the Ellisville office, you will find increased selection of frames, new advanced testing technology, and increased access to treatments and specialty contact lenses.  You will see some familiar faces and some friendly new ones, but we hope that you will continue to entrust us with your care and that of your loved ones.

In other news:
We would like to cordially invite you to a ribbon cutting and luncheon at our Ellisville office on Thursday August 17th.  Details will follow, but we will be featuring a frame trunk show, special pricing on featured frame lines, refreshments, prizes and more!  If you would be interested in attending, please call our Ellisville office at 636-256-7800 to RSVP.  Hope to see you there!

More Options for Dry Eyes:  The same way the cold dry air of winter causes our skin to dry, it can also have an uncomfortable effect on our eyes. Burning, itching and a gritty feeling can be symptoms of dry eye. In addition, though it sounds contradictory, excessive tearing might also be a clue that one is suffering from dry eye. The good news is we now have more options to treat this frustrating condition. Several new contact lenses are now available to help restore moisture to the ocular surface and a new prescription eye drop called Xiidra is helping many patients. If you believe you are experiencing dry eye please contact our office for an appointment at 314-863-0000.
